Huntsville, Alabama – Rain and warmer temperatures are expected across North Alabama today, bringing wet travel conditions to major roadways before cooler and drier weather settles in midweek.
According to the National Weather Service office in Huntsville, rain chances range from 70% to 100% throughout the day as widespread showers move through the region. High temperatures are forecast to reach the upper 40s to mid-50s, contributing to a damp but relatively mild Tuesday.
Roadways including Interstate 565, Interstate 65, US-72, US-431, and surrounding local routes are expected to experience wet pavement conditions, particularly during the morning and afternoon commute periods. While no severe weather is anticipated, reduced visibility and slick roads may slow travel at times.
Rain is expected to taper off later tonight as drier air begins to move into the Tennessee Valley. Behind the system, temperatures cool noticeably on Wednesday, with highs ranging from the upper 30s to mid-40s. Overnight lows Wednesday night are expected to fall into the upper teens to mid-20s, marking a sharp change from Tuesday’s mild conditions.
Thursday remains dry and cool, with highs in the mid-30s to lower 40s under mostly sunny skies. Conditions begin to warm again by Friday, when highs are forecast to climb back into the lower to mid-50s. Warmer temperatures are expected to continue into the first part of the weekend.
The National Weather Service notes that no winter precipitation is expected with this system, and impacts will primarily be limited to rain today followed by cooler temperatures.
This forecast may be most noticeable for commuters, school transportation, and freight traffic traveling along the I-65 and I-565 corridors. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time on wet roads today and remain alert for changing conditions as temperatures drop midweek.
