Washington, District of Columbia – Snow will begin sticking to roads across the D.C. metro area by early Sunday evening, setting up a slick and slow Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 5 p.m. Sunday until 10 a.m. Monday for Washington, D.C., Prince George’s and Charles counties in Maryland, and Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria and Prince William counties in Virginia. Total snowfall between 2 and 4 inches is expected, with wind gusts up to 35 mph that could create areas of blowing snow overnight.

Roads including I-95, I-66, I-495 and the George Washington Parkway may become snow covered after sunset. Heavier bursts could reduce visibility at times, especially late Sunday night into early Monday. Bridges and overpasses are likely to become slick first as temperatures fall below freezing.

The advisory specifically targets the Monday morning commute, when untreated roads may remain slippery. Drivers should reduce speed, allow extra stopping distance and check 511 for real-time conditions before heading out.

Snow tapers by mid-morning Monday, but gusty winds and patchy slick spots could linger into late morning. Additional updates are possible if snowfall rates increase overnight.
