Baltimore, Maryland – Scattered thunderstorms are expected to return Friday afternoon across central Maryland, potentially disrupting travel on I-95 and threatening power outages near the Potomac and Chesapeake Bay.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, storms could begin after 2 p.m. Friday and continue into the early evening, with the strongest cells capable of producing frequent lightning, brief heavy rain, and gusty winds. Areas at greatest risk include Baltimore, Annapolis, Arlington, and Alexandria.

The weather hazard primarily targets boaters and afternoon commuters. Special Marine Warnings remain possible over the Chesapeake Bay and tidal Potomac due to unstable conditions. Travelers along the I-95 corridor between DC and Baltimore should monitor for slick roads and delays.

While no hazardous conditions are forecast from Saturday through Wednesday, Friday’s storms mark a temporary break in an otherwise quiet stretch of late summer weather. Humidity will stay elevated, with daytime highs near 88°F through early next week.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, avoid boating Friday afternoon, and monitor alerts from the NWS. The chance of additional storms returns by Tuesday.
