Washington, DC – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. EST this morning for the District of Columbia, much of Maryland, and northern and central Virginia as freezing drizzle continues to create icy conditions across the region. The National Weather Service warns that even light accumulations may lead to hazardous travel during the early-morning hours.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, areas across DC, Prince George’s County, Anne Arundel, Southern Baltimore, Montgomery, Howard, Charles, St. Mary’s, Calvert, and parts of northern Virginia—including Fairfax, Arlington, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Culpeper, Loudoun, and Prince William counties—may see a light glaze of ice as temperatures drop into the 20s. Fog and leftover moisture from earlier precipitation will also refreeze, creating additional slick spots.
A separate advisory remains in place for Western and Eastern Garrett County in Maryland and Western Grant County in West Virginia, where freezing drizzle may mix with light snow at times. Sidewalks, bridges, and untreated roads could become very slippery, and isolated power line icing is possible.
Forecasters urge drivers to slow down, leave extra distance, and watch for black ice, especially on bridges and elevated surfaces. Residents can check real-time road conditions by calling 511 in their state.
