Washington, D.C. – The National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington is warning drivers to prepare for light snow early Friday morning, which could create slippery travel conditions across parts of the D.C. and Baltimore metro areas and central Virginia.

Snow is expected to begin before sunrise Friday, mainly south and west of the D.C. metro, extending through mid-afternoon, according to the NWS. Most locations are forecast to see between a dusting and 2 inches, though totals will depend heavily on the storm’s final track.

Forecasters say there will be a sharp cutoff in snowfall north and west of D.C., meaning Baltimore and northern Maryland could see little to no accumulation, while areas along I-66 and U.S. 50 have the highest chance for 1–2 inches of snow.

If the system shifts slightly north, higher totals could develop in parts of northern Virginia and southern Maryland, but if the storm remains farther south, dry air could limit snowfall to areas near and south of I-64.

Motorists traveling early Friday should allow extra time, reduce speeds, and watch for slick spots, especially on bridges and untreated roads. Snow should taper off by late morning to early afternoon, with cold conditions persisting into the evening.
