Dayton, Ohio – A winter storm is expected to bring accumulating snow and hazardous travel conditions to the Miami Valley this weekend, with the most significant impacts anticipated on Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, light snow will begin Saturday afternoon and continue into Saturday night, primarily near and south of Interstate 70. A second, stronger wave of snow is forecast to arrive around daybreak Sunday, becoming moderate to heavy through the afternoon hours.

Snowfall totals across Dayton and surrounding communities are expected to range from 8 to 12 inches by Sunday evening. During the heaviest period, forecasters say snowfall rates could exceed one inch per hour, especially between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday, making travel difficult to dangerous.

Snow may gradually taper Sunday evening into early Sunday night. There is also a low-end potential for sleet or freezing rain Sunday morning mainly south of the Ohio River, which could further complicate travel in those areas.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall, and prepare for rapidly changing road conditions. Snow-covered roads and reduced visibility are expected to slow travel across the region through Sunday.
