Nashville, TN – A two-vehicle crash early Friday morning on Old Hickory Boulevard claimed the life of a Nashville man, prompting an ongoing investigation by Metro Nashville Police.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the crash occurred around 2 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Old Hickory Boulevard and Zermatt Avenue in Davidson County, southeast of downtown Nashville.
Police said a 2005 Lincoln Grand Marquis was traveling westbound on Old Hickory Boulevard when the driver attempted to turn left onto Zermatt Avenue. Investigators say the vehicle was struck on the passenger side by an eastbound 2019 Honda Accord, causing the Grand Marquis to overturn.
The front-seat passenger of the Lincoln, Markeith Miller, 42, of Nashville, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities noted that neither occupant of the Lincoln was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Lincoln, Katera Johnson, 38, of Murfreesboro, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Police said the driver of the Honda, Eddie McGee III, 25, was wearing a seatbelt and was also taken to Vanderbilt with non-life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary findings indicate the contributing factor to the fatal crash appears to be failure to yield the right of way, according to police. Investigators are continuing to examine whether speed or impairment played a role.
Parts of Old Hickory Boulevard experienced temporary traffic disruptions as crews worked the scene.
