THOMASVILLE, NC – A Durham man was arrested earlier this month in connection with the theft of four commercial lawnmowers valued at over $41,000 from a Thomasville business, according to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to Joe’s Tractor Sales on September 23, 2025, after a report of stolen 2025 Bobcat lawnmowers. Detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigations Division determined that Calvis Shannard Jones, 42, of Durham, allegedly entered the property in the early morning hours driving a Penske rental truck. Authorities say Jones damaged a fence before taking the four mowers.

Following the investigation, arrest warrants were issued for Jones on multiple felony charges, including breaking and entering, larceny, trespassing, and property damage. On October 15, detectives with the Durham Police Department and the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office took Jones into custody in Durham.

Jones was later transported to Davidson County, where he was served with additional outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions. He is currently being held on a total bond of $210,260, with a court date set for December 1, 2025, in Lexington District Court, officials said.

According to North Carolina law, judicial officials—not law enforcement—set conditions for bond. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
