Lexington, NC – Deputies in Davidson County arrested a man Thursday night after finding him with a loaded handgun outside a Dollar General on Old Salisbury Road, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division was flagged down around 9:41 p.m. on Sept. 25 by an employee at the Dollar General at 9299 Old Salisbury Road. The worker reported a masked man dressed in black walking near the back of the store as it neared closing time at 10 p.m.

According to deputies, the man was identified as 38-year-old Christopher Dion Bennett. Authorities said Bennett was found to have an outstanding warrant in Davidson County for narcotics-related offenses. He was taken into custody without incident.

When deputies searched him, they allegedly discovered a loaded handgun in his front pocket. Bennett, a convicted felon, was formally charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and carrying a concealed weapon.

He was taken before a magistrate and issued a $30,000 secured bond on the narcotics warrant and an additional $52,500 secured bond for the firearm charges, the sheriff’s office said.

Bennett is currently being held at the Davidson County Detention Center under a combined secured bond of $82,500 and is awaiting his first court appearance.
