Davidson County, NC – A routine traffic stop in Davidson County led to a drug-related arrest after investigators allegedly discovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside a vehicle late last month.

According to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, detectives with the Traffic and Criminal Enforcement (T.R.A.C.E.) Team conducted a traffic stop on a 2014 Ford Focus on West Center Street Extension on December 23, 2025, Tuesday, due to a traffic violation. During the stop, detectives searched the vehicle and reportedly located methamphetamine and related paraphernalia.

Authorities say the passenger, Kristen Allie Koonts, age 26, of Concord, North Carolina, was taken into custody at the scene. Koonts was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators also cited the driver of the vehicle for driving while license revoked, though no additional charges against the driver were announced.

Koonts was transported to the Davidson County Jail, where she was placed under no bond under North Carolina’s pretrial release guidelines. She is scheduled to make her first court appearance in December 2025, officials confirmed.

Under North Carolina General Statute 15A-532, judicial officials — not law enforcement — determine conditions of release for individuals charged in criminal cases. Bond amounts and release decisions are handled by the court system.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office said the T.R.A.C.E. Team continues proactive enforcement efforts aimed at reducing drug activity and improving roadway safety throughout the county.
