Davidson County, NC – Detectives with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office arrested a wanted fugitive Wednesday evening after a traffic stop in Lexington, according to officials.
According to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, members of the T.R.A.C.E. Team conducted a traffic stop around 6 p.m. Wednesday on a 2015 Honda Civic traveling westbound on Highway 64 in Lexington for a traffic violation. The driver was identified as Avonta Leann Walker, 38, of Elizabethton, Tennessee.
Authorities said Walker was confirmed as a wanted fugitive through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) due to a probation violation. Officials also stated that Walker had outstanding warrants out of Wilkes County, North Carolina, for failure to appear on previous drug and traffic-related charges.
Walker was taken into custody on the outstanding fugitive warrant and was additionally charged with driving while license revoked, according to the sheriff’s office.
Officials said Walker was transported to the Davidson County Jail, where he was placed under a $50,000 secured bond.
The sheriff’s office noted that under North Carolina General Statute 15A-532, judicial officials determine conditions of release in criminal proceedings. Bond amounts are not set by law enforcement.
No injuries were reported during the traffic stop, and no additional suspects were involved, officials said.
The case remains pending in the court system. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
