Davidson County, NC – Two Denton residents, including a local EMT and a former law enforcement officer, were arrested Friday in connection with an ongoing child sexual abuse investigation, according to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say the case began August 25 after deputies received reports of abuse at a residence on Anderson Street in Denton. Detectives identified Jeremy Lanning Amburn, 43, as the primary suspect, with further investigation revealing Angela Carpenter Amburn, 40, was allegedly aware of and facilitated the abuse.
According to the sheriff’s office, detectives later uncovered that Benjamin Geoffrey Myers, 38, an EMT with Davidson County EMS, and Jennifer Aree Myers, 44, a former officer with the Brookford Police Department in Catawba County, allegedly accessed government computer systems to obtain information about the ongoing investigation. That information was allegedly used to alert Amburn, which investigators say led to the destruction of key evidence.
Both Myers were charged with one count of Felony Accessing Government Computers and one count of Obstruction of Justice. They were booked at the Davidson County Detention Center, where Benjamin is being held on a $1,500 secured bond and Jennifer on a $5,000 secured bond.
Court dates are set for December 1 and December 2 at the Davidson County Courthouse. Magistrates have ordered the Myers and Amburn not to have any contact with one another.
The sheriff’s office said no additional details will be released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
