Davidson County, N.C. – Deputies with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Lexington man after discovering an injured cat allegedly shot with an arrow during an animal cruelty investigation, authorities confirmed.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the New Cut Road area of Lexington on September 30, 2025, after receiving multiple welfare check requests for cats reportedly being shot by a bow and arrow. Upon arrival, deputies located an injured feline suffering from a puncture wound consistent with an arrow injury. The animal was taken to a veterinary hospital for emergency care.

Following the investigation, Russell Crowe of Lexington was arrested on October 7, 2025, and charged with one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty, felony possession of methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia. He is scheduled to appear in court on December 4, 2025, according to deputies.

Authorities say the case remains active, and anyone with additional information is asked to contact Corporal C. Soles at the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Division.

Under North Carolina law, judicial officials—not law enforcement—set bond conditions. Deputies reminded the public that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
