According to the Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began on September 30, 2025, when deputies responded to reports of an injured feline on New Cut Road near Lexington. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the cat had allegedly been shot by a bow and arrow. The animal was taken to a veterinarian for emergency care.

On October 7, 2025, Russell Crowe, of Lexington, was arrested and charged with one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty, along with felony possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He is scheduled to appear in court on December 4, 2025.

Two days later, on October 9, 2025, deputies arrested a second suspect, Ronnie Bolt, also of Lexington. Bolt was charged with one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty and is scheduled to appear in court on December 9, 2025.
