Davenport, Iowa — A passing cold front is bringing cooler, windy conditions to the Quad Cities region today, with sunshine expected to return later this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, cloudy skies and a chance of rain early Saturday will gradually give way to partial clearing as the day progresses.

Temperatures are expected to fall into the 40s this afternoon, accompanied by northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts reaching up to 35 mph.

Conditions will turn cooler tonight with mostly clear skies and overnight lows dropping into the lower to mid-30s. Winds will gradually shift from northwest to southwest as the next weather pattern develops.

By Sunday, the region will see a return to mostly sunny and warmer conditions, with afternoon highs expected to reach the upper 50s to mid-60s.

Despite the recent rainfall, forecasters say an elevated fire risk could develop Sunday afternoon as gusty southwest winds and sunshine help dry vegetation across the area.

Officials recommend residents avoid outdoor burning and remain aware of changing fire conditions during the warmer, breezy weather.

For commuters and students across the Quad Cities, strong winds today may affect travel on open roadways and bridges before calmer conditions return Sunday.
