DAVENPORT, Iowa – Residents across eastern Iowa will face sweltering heat this weekend as temperatures climb into the 90s with heat index values reaching up to 105 degrees. A Heat Advisory is in place Saturday for Davenport and surrounding areas, where conditions may become dangerous for those outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service, Saturday will bring mostly sunny skies with a high near 94. The combination of heat and humidity will make it feel significantly hotter, prompting officials to urge residents to limit strenuous activity and stay hydrated. Winds will shift from the southeast to southwest in the afternoon.

Sunday will bring little relief with highs again near 92 and a heat index topping 100 degrees. Monday will stay hot with a high of 94, before a slight chance of storms develops Monday night and continues into Tuesday. Cooler air finally arrives midweek, with highs dropping into the 70s by Wednesday.

City officials recommend checking on vulnerable neighbors, avoiding non-essential outdoor work, and keeping pets indoors during the hottest hours of the day. Relief is expected by Wednesday, but warnings remain in effect until then.
