Davenport, Iowa – Drivers across the Davenport and Quad Cities area should prepare for slower travel today as light to briefly moderate snow moves through eastern Iowa, creating slippery and lightly snow-covered roads.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, snow is expected mainly this afternoon, with accumulations ranging from a dusting up to around 1 to 2 inches, especially north of Interstate 80. While snowfall amounts are not extreme, cold temperatures and gusty northwest winds will allow snow to accumulate quickly on road surfaces.
Roadways including Interstate 80, U.S. Highway 61, U.S. 67, and local city streets in Davenport could become slick during periods of steadier snow. Winds gusting between 25 and 30 mph may cause patchy blowing and drifting snow later this afternoon and after dark, further reducing visibility and making travel more difficult, especially in open areas and on bridges.
Temperatures are expected to remain in the upper teens to mid-20s, limiting the effectiveness of road treatments and increasing the risk of snow sticking to untreated pavement. Travel impacts are most likely from late morning through early evening, with conditions gradually improving later tonight as snowfall tapers.
Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time, reduce speed, and increase following distance. Even light snowfall can lead to hazardous conditions under cold and windy setups like this, and additional slick spots may linger into Sunday as colder air remains in place.
