Davenport, Iowa – Strong storms could develop quickly Thursday afternoon and evening as a cold front moves across the Quad Cities, bringing the risk of hail and damaging winds.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather is in place, mainly south and east of a line from Fairfield to Moline to Sterling Rock Falls. Storms are expected to develop during the afternoon and continue into the evening hours as the front pushes southeast.
Cities including Davenport, Moline, Rock Island, and Burlington could see isolated storms become strong, with the primary threats being wind gusts capable of downing small branches and hail. While widespread severe weather is not expected, a few storms could intensify quickly.
Drivers along Interstate 80, Interstate 74, and US-61 should be prepared for sudden downpours and reduced visibility during peak travel times. Outdoor plans Thursday afternoon and evening may be impacted by fast-moving storms.
Residents should stay alert for updates, as the exact timing and intensity of storms remains uncertain. Conditions are expected to improve later Thursday night once the cold front exits the region, but additional advisories may be issued if storms strengthen.
