Quad Cities, IA/IL – Cold overnight temperatures are expected to persist before a gradual warming trend develops later this week.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, tonight will bring another cold night across eastern Iowa and western Illinois, with temperatures falling into the single digits to teens. The cold conditions may impact early morning travel along major corridors including I-80, I-74, and U.S. Route 61, particularly during the Wednesday morning commute.
Forecasts indicate cool conditions continuing through midweek. High temperatures on Wednesday are expected to remain in the mid-20s to near 30 degrees, with dry conditions prevailing. By Thursday, temperatures are forecast to climb into the mid-30s to low 40s across much of the region. Precipitation chances will stay minimal, with only a slight chance of light flurries, mainly across northeastern portions of the area.
A noticeable warming trend is expected as the week progresses. Friday and Saturday are forecast to bring daytime highs into the mid-30s to low 40s, signaling a shift toward milder late-winter conditions. Skies are expected to remain partly cloudy, and no significant winter weather systems are anticipated through the weekend.
The National Weather Service noted that despite recent cold nights, January and early February have featured fluctuating temperatures, with brief warmups offsetting colder periods. No hazardous winter precipitation is currently expected, reducing the risk of widespread travel disruptions.
Commuters, students, and young workers should continue to dress for cold conditions during early mornings and evenings, especially when waiting outdoors or traveling before sunrise.
