Davenport, Iowa – A fast-moving storm system is expected to bring rain changing to light snow across the Quad Cities region late Friday night into Saturday, followed by colder and breezy conditions this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, rain may develop Friday night before quickly changing over to light snow from northwest to southeast. Snowfall amounts are expected to remain light, with less than 1 inch forecast for most areas. The highest probability of receiving around 1 inch of snow is across northwest Illinois, northeast of Davenport.

Forecasters noted that uncertainty remains regarding the exact track of the system, as well as air and pavement temperatures, which could influence snowfall impacts. Despite this, significant accumulation is not expected at this time.

Friday will be dry during the day, with highs in the low to mid-40s. Temperatures will fall overnight into the mid-20s to low 30s as precipitation develops. Snow is expected to continue into Saturday, tapering off from west to east by Saturday evening.

Saturday will be noticeably colder, with daytime highs in the 30s. Northwest winds of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph, are expected, which may cause areas of blowing snow where accumulation occurs.

By Sunday, skies will trend drier, but colder air will remain in place. High temperatures are forecast to stay in the low 30s, while wind chills Sunday morning may drop into the single digits above zero.

The National Weather Service advises residents to monitor forecast updates, as small changes in temperature could affect impacts. Drivers should remain cautious on untreated roads late Friday night and Saturday morning, especially during periods of snow and gusty winds.
