Davenport, IA – Widespread light snow is creating slippery travel conditions across eastern Iowa and western Illinois this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in the Quad Cities. Forecasters say the light snow will continue into the evening, affecting most highways and secondary roads across the outlook area.
As of 1:30 PM, Iowa DOT road condition maps show numerous routes listed as partially covered or completely covered with snow, including stretches of US-61, US-34, I-74, and I-80. A traffic camera image from Burlington, IA, shows snow-covered lanes and reduced visibility as vehicles move slowly along US-61.
According to the NWS, even light snow can quickly lead to hazardous travel conditions as fresh accumulation creates slick patches—especially on bridges, ramps, and untreated surfaces. Temperatures remain cold enough for snow to stick through sunset, and minor additional accumulation is expected through the early evening.
Residents across communities such as Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline, Muscatine, Clinton, and Burlington should anticipate longer travel times and use extra caution on their afternoon and evening commutes.
The NWS advises drivers to reduce speed, increase following distance, and avoid sudden braking. Slippery conditions may persist into tonight until crews treat roads and temperatures moderate slightly.
