Davenport, Iowa – Snow could begin impacting travel south of I-80 by 6 p.m. Sunday, with the highest risk for accumulating snowfall and slick roads centered along the US-61 and Burlington corridors.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, colder air settling into eastern Iowa and west-central Illinois this weekend will set the stage for returning snow chances. Light accumulations are possible Saturday, mainly north of Highway 30, but impacts appear limited at this time.
Attention then turns to Sunday and Sunday night. Current projections show a 40 to 50 percent chance of minor travel impacts south of I-80, including areas near Muscatine, Burlington and into west-central Illinois. A few inches of accumulation are possible if the storm track favors southern counties. North of I-80, including the immediate Quad Cities metro, probabilities for impacts are lower, closer to 10 to 20 percent.
Road conditions could deteriorate quickly Sunday evening if steadier snow develops. Bridges and overpasses along I-280 and I-74 would likely become snow covered first as temperatures remain below freezing.
Forecast confidence remains moderate to low regarding exact snowfall totals and placement. Small shifts in the storm track could move the heavier band north or south.
Residents planning travel Sunday afternoon or evening should monitor updates closely. Additional advisories or winter headlines may be issued as confidence increases and snowfall amounts become clearer.
