Davenport, Iowa – A soaking rain and the potential for isolated severe thunderstorms are expected later today and this evening across the Quad Cities.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities, widespread showers are likely mid-morning through mid-afternoon, followed by a 40 to 60 percent chance of storms late this afternoon and evening. The main storm window is expected between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Forecasters say isolated severe storms are possible, with damaging wind gusts as the primary threat. A brief tornado or two cannot be ruled out in parts of west-central through central Illinois, though the overall severe threat remains isolated and could shift.

Rainfall totals through early Friday morning are expected to range from 0.50 to 1.00 inches, with localized totals up to 1.50 inches. The heavy rain may lead to ponding on roadways, reduced visibility, and rising rivers, with a risk for ice jam break-up in some areas.

Officials urge residents to secure loose outdoor items, remain alert for changing conditions, and avoid driving through water-covered roads.

For commuters, the highest impacts are expected during the late-afternoon and evening travel period as storms move through the area.
