Davenport, IA – A Davenport man was sentenced Monday, September 15, 2025, to 180 months in federal prison for attempting to entice a minor and failing to register as a sex offender while on supervised release.
According to court documents, 52-year-old Gerald Brian Hoard was already serving federal supervision following a 2022 conviction for attempting to transfer obscene material to a minor. In July 2024, Hoard sent explicit images and arranged to meet someone he believed was a 14-year-old male at a Davenport movie theater. Prosecutors said Hoard admitted his intent to engage in sexual activity when confronted by law enforcement at the meeting site.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa, investigators later examined Hoard’s electronic devices and accounts, discovering additional online identifiers that he failed to disclose as required under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
In addition to the 180-month prison sentence, Hoard’s prior supervised release was revoked. The court imposed an additional 12-month term, to run concurrently. Upon release, Hoard will face 10 years of federal supervision, which does not allow parole.
The case was investigated by the Davenport Police Department and the Scott County Sheriff’s Office as part of Project Safe Childhood, a federal initiative launched in 2006 to address child sexual exploitation crimes nationwide.
