Davenport, IA – Snow showers and strong winds are expected to impact the evening commute across the Davenport area as an Arctic front moves through.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, periodic snow showers are expected this afternoon and evening, with quick coatings of snow generally under 1 inch. While widespread snow squalls are not guaranteed, forecasters place the probability at 30–40%, enough to raise concerns for sudden travel hazards.
The primary threat will be gusty winds up to 45 mph, which could cause blowing snow and sharply reduced visibility, including brief near-whiteout conditions in spots—especially where snow has already accumulated.
The most hazardous window is expected between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m., coinciding with the evening commute. Drivers should be prepared for patches of very hazardous travel if a snow squall develops, as conditions can deteriorate rapidly with little warning.
Roads most at risk include Interstate 80, Interstate 74, U.S. Highway 61, and U.S. Highway 67, along with bridges and open stretches where blowing snow can quickly obscure lane markings.
The National Weather Service urges motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time. Commuters, students, and delivery drivers should monitor updates and be ready to adjust plans if conditions worsen during the evening drive.
