Darlington County, SC – A routine traffic stop in the Lamar area has led to three arrests and the seizure of drugs and a firearm, according to the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sheriff Michael August, deputies with the Darlington County Street Crimes Unit and the Darlington County Combined Drug Unit conducted a lawful traffic stop on Friday, December 26, 2025, with assistance from the Hartsville Police Department. During the stop, deputies allegedly discovered narcotics and a handgun, prompting multiple arrests.

Authorities say William Bird was found in possession of approximately 17.54 grams of marijuana and a handgun. Investigators allege Bird was prohibited from possessing a firearm. He was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited. A Darlington County magistrate issued Bird a cash or surety bond totaling $8,000.

Deputies also arrested Brandon Hall, who was allegedly found with 2.77 grams of methamphetamine. Hall was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine. A magistrate set his bond at $25,000, according to officials.

A third suspect, Cotye Lee, was allegedly found in possession of 42.65 grams of methamphetamine, 7.89 grams of cocaine, and 17.6 grams of marijuana. Lee was charged with Trafficking Methamphetamine or Cocaine (28 grams or more but less than 100 grams, first offense), Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine. His total bond was set at $80,000, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office stated the investigation remains active and no additional information is being released at this time.
