Darke County, OH – Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning at a major Darke County intersection, prompting a multi-agency emergency response.
According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 7:57 a.m. Thursday to the intersection of U.S. Route 127 and State Route 503 following reports of an injury accident. New Madison Fire, Tri-Village Rescue, and Arcanum Rescue also responded to the scene.
Investigators said a gray 2021 Jeep Renegade, driven by Mary Wood, 75, of Greenville, was traveling westbound on State Route 503 and stopped at a posted stop sign. Authorities say Wood failed to yield the right-of-way and pulled into the path of a southbound 2002 Buick CX, driven by Holly Daugherty, 67, also of Greenville.
Both vehicles collided in the intersection, according to deputies. The Jeep came to rest on the roadway, while the Buick traveled off the right side of the road and ended up in a ditch.
Wood and Daugherty were transported to Wayne HealthCare for treatment of minor injuries, officials said. No life-threatening injuries were reported.
Deputies cited Wood for failure to yield at a clearly marked stop sign, according to the sheriff’s office. The crash remains under investigation.
The intersection of U.S. 127 and State Route 503 is a heavily traveled corridor connecting communities across Darke County and the greater western Ohio region. Drivers are urged to use caution, especially during morning commute hours.
