Darke County, OH – Emergency crews responded to a serious two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning that left one teenager injured and required an air medical helicopter at a busy Darke County intersection.

According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the intersection of State Route 49 and Red River–West Grove Road at approximately 7:12 a.m. Tuesday. Pittsburg Fire Department, Arcanum Rescue, and CareFlight also assisted at the scene.

Investigators said a red Hyundai Sonata, driven by Allyson Waymire, 18, of Englewood, was traveling northwest on State Route 49 when it collided with a black Lexus driven by Christopher Wilkins, 44, of Laura. According to authorities, Wilkins had been stopped at a stop sign before pulling into the intersection.

The impact resulted in injuries to Waymire, who was transported by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment. Her condition was not immediately released. Wilkins was not injured in the crash, officials said.

The crash temporarily disrupted traffic in the area as emergency crews worked the scene and investigators conducted a preliminary review. Drivers traveling through the intersection experienced delays during the morning commute.

The Darke County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing. No citations or charges were announced as of Tuesday morning.

Motorists are urged to use caution at rural intersections, especially during early morning hours when visibility and traffic patterns can change quickly.
