New Madison, OH – A 10-year-old boy was flown to a hospital after being struck by an SUV while riding his bicycle in New Madison on Thursday.

According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and emergency crews responded to the intersection of North Main Street and Fairview Avenue around the 100 block of N. Main Street. Authorities said a 2018 Nissan Murano, driven by Karen Bales, was headed southwest on Main Street when the accident happened.

Investigators said the child, identified as Laim Napier, was traveling northwest on Fairview Avenue when he allegedly failed to stop at a posted stop sign and rode into the path of the SUV. The impact caused Napier to strike the driver’s side portion of the vehicle.

Napier was initially treated at the scene by Tri-Village Rescue before being airlifted to Miami Valley Children’s Hospital. His condition has not been released. Authorities confirmed Bales was not injured.

The Darke County Reconstruction Team is assisting in the investigation, which remains ongoing.
