Danville, IL – An Alvin, Illinois man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for shooting the mother of his children. Francis Briscoe, 25, was convicted of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm after pleading guilty.

According to the Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s Office, the incident occurred on February 24, 2022, at a Walmart parking lot in Danville. Police responded to reports of a shooting and learned the victim, a woman, had been injured by her ex-boyfriend. Witnesses told police Briscoe confronted her in the store before ambushing her outside.

Prosecutors said Briscoe was upset over the breakup of their relationship. Judge Robert McIntire handed down the sentence on Monday, requiring Briscoe to serve at least 85% of the term before release.

State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy commended the Danville Police Department for their investigation. “This sentence sends a clear message that violent behavior will not be tolerated,” she said.

The victim, who shares two children with Briscoe, continues to recover from both physical and emotional trauma.
