Danville, IL – A 36-year-old Georgetown man was arrested early Friday morning after allegedly refusing to leave a Danville residence while armed, police said.

According to the Danville Police Department, officers responded around 2:13 a.m. on November 14, 2025, to a home in the 2900 block of East Main Street following reports of an armed individual. The resident told police that Marquil L. Brown, 36, had arrived at the home with a handgun and was acting erratically.

When officers arrived, they attempted to contact Brown, but he reportedly refused to cooperate or exit the residence. Police then activated the Emergency Response Unit (ERU), which tried to negotiate with Brown. After unsuccessful attempts, ERU members entered the home and took Brown into custody without further incident.

A search of the residence turned up a handgun matching the complainant’s description. Police said Brown is a convicted felon currently on parole, making his possession of a firearm illegal.

Brown was booked into the Danville Public Safety Building on preliminary charges of:

  • Unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon
  • Aggravated unlawful use of a weapon (UUW)
  • Obstructing justice
  • Criminal trespass to residence

Authorities emphasized that a complaint is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information has been released.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Danville Police at (217) 431-2250 or Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at (217) 446-TIPS.
