According to the Danville Police Department, the incident occurred around 4:32 p.m. on September 28 near Bowman Avenue and Crestview Drive. Officers arriving at the scene found a 14-year-old who had been struck by a vehicle. The juvenile was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the driver fled the scene after the collision. Witnesses and traffic cameras helped investigators identify a 2013 Chevrolet Traverse as the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was later located at a residence on Nicklas Avenue. Officers made contact with the driver, identified as George E. Atkinson of Danville, who was taken into custody on a preliminary charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.

Authorities emphasized that Atkinson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information may be released as it becomes available.
