Quad Cities, IA-IL – A cold weather advisory remains in effect for portions of Iowa, Illinois, and northeast Missouri until noon Sunday. Wind chills as low as 25 degrees below zero are expected.
According to the National Weather Service, this advisory impacts areas including Davenport, Rock Island, Iowa City, Burlington, and nearby communities. Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes under these conditions. Residents are advised to take precautions to protect themselves, pets, and neighbors, particularly the elderly.
The advisory also notes that wind chill values may fall to similarly dangerous levels again on Tuesday morning.
To minimize risk, dress in layers and cover all exposed skin when outdoors. Use space heaters safely and avoid using generators or grills indoors to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Officials recommend checking on vulnerable individuals during this extreme weather.
For further updates or to report weather-related emergencies, contact local authorities or the National Weather Service. Stay indoors as much as possible to avoid prolonged exposure.
