Reno, NV – A powerful winter storm is set to impact the Sierra, bringing heavy snow and strong winds that could cause hazardous travel conditions. Forecasters warn of significant disruptions from Monday through Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will reach 8 to 12 inches above 5,500 feet in Northeast California, with gusts up to 55 mph. The Greater Lake Tahoe area could see snow accumulations of up to 3 feet at elevations above 7,000 feet, with winds reaching 50 mph.

Mono County may experience the heaviest snowfall, with up to 5 feet expected in higher elevations. Wind gusts could reach 45 mph along the Sierra crest, making travel extremely difficult. Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for potential power outages.

The storm is expected to peak between Monday night and Tuesday, with lingering impacts into Wednesday. Travelers should check road conditions before heading out.
