Quad Cities, IL – Residents across Illinois should prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions as a strong cold front pushes through the region on Wednesday, bringing high winds and dangerously low wind chills.

According to the National Weather Service, winds will increase to 25 to 30 mph by late Wednesday afternoon, with gusts reaching 45 mph. These gusty northwest winds will combine with falling temperatures, dropping wind chills to 5 to 15 degrees below zero by early Thursday.

Blowing debris, icy roadways, and reduced visibility will likely impact major routes, including I-80 and I-88. Officials recommend securing outdoor objects and delaying travel if possible during the peak gust period from 3 p.m. to midnight on Wednesday.

By Thursday morning, daytime highs will struggle to exceed 24 degrees, with overnight lows dipping to 7 to 12 degrees. A gradual warming trend is expected by Friday, offering some relief with temperatures climbing into the mid-30s.

The remainder of the week will remain clear but cold, with sunny skies on Thursday and Friday. Looking ahead to the weekend, milder conditions are forecast, with highs in the low to mid-40s.

Residents are urged to dress warmly, check for wind-related hazards, and monitor updates from the National Weather Service for the latest alerts. The Quad Cities area is under a wind advisory for Wednesday afternoon and evening.
