Michigan City, IN — Dangerous swimming conditions have been issued for Southeast Lake Michigan, with winds and waves reaching life-threatening levels today. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Northern Indiana issued a high swim risk, warning beachgoers to avoid the water through Monday night.

According to the NWS, waves are expected to reach up to 9 feet on Sunday, accompanied by winds from the north at 15 to 20 mph. The hazardous conditions are forecasted to continue into Monday, with waves subsiding to 4 to 7 feet. These powerful waves, along with strong rip currents, present a significant danger to anyone entering the water.

The NWS advises all visitors to avoid swimming and stay away from the pier areas, where conditions are particularly perilous. Those planning to visit beaches along Southeast Lake Michigan are urged to exercise extreme caution, as even experienced swimmers could be at risk.
