Jackson, KY – A dangerous winter storm is set to bring heavy ice and snow across eastern Kentucky through Tuesday morning, creating hazardous conditions and widespread disruptions.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday. The storm is expected to produce up to 5 inches of snow and ice accumulations of nearly half an inch. Wind gusts exceeding 20 mph could worsen conditions, increasing the likelihood of tree damage and power outages. Travel is expected to be especially dangerous on KY-30 and other major routes, with ice making roadways nearly impassable at times.
The heaviest precipitation is expected Sunday night into Monday, when freezing rain will coat roads, power lines, and trees. By Monday afternoon, conditions will transition to snow, further complicating cleanup efforts. Officials urge residents to prepare for extended power outages and avoid unnecessary travel.
Residents should stock emergency supplies, charge devices, and check on neighbors. If travel is unavoidable, ensure your vehicle is equipped with blankets, food, and water in case of emergencies.
Stay updated on conditions and avoid outdoor activities during icy periods. Safety precautions are critical as eastern Kentucky faces this significant winter storm.
