Chicago, IL – Dense fog continues to impact travel across portions of central and northeast Illinois, with visibility reduced to a quarter mile or less in some areas. A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. Monday, urging commuters to allow extra travel time and use low beams for safety.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the fog is particularly widespread along and south of the Kankakee River Valley and east of I-55, creating hazardous conditions overnight into early Monday. Low visibility increases the risk of accidents, and drivers are encouraged to slow down and maintain safe distances.
Looking ahead, fog is expected to lift by mid-morning Monday, giving way to cloudy skies and a slight chance of showers before noon. Temperatures will remain mild with a high of 51 degrees, but a stronger system arrives late Tuesday, bringing a mix of rain and snow across northern Illinois.
By Tuesday night, temperatures are forecast to drop into the lower 30s, increasing the likelihood of accumulating snow in the area. Light to moderate snowfall could linger into Wednesday morning, with winds gusting up to 30 mph. Travel disruptions are possible, especially during the midweek morning commute.
For the remainder of the week, conditions will remain mostly cloudy with temperatures hovering in the mid-30s. Another chance for snow arrives on Thursday, signaling a colder trend as the week progresses.
Residents should stay updated on local forecasts and exercise caution while traveling, particularly during the dense fog and upcoming snow events. Visit weather.gov/chicago for the latest alerts and updates.
