Madison, WI – The Madison Police Department is inviting residents to a free Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (C.R.A.S.E.) training on Tuesday, Nov. 5, designed to prepare the public to respond safely and effectively in an active shooter situation.

According to Madison Police, the two-hour session will be held at the MPD Training Center, 5702 Femrite Dr., from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. The course uses real-world examples to teach participants the nationally recognized “Avoid, Deny, Defend” strategy for surviving violent encounters.

Following the C.R.A.S.E. session, attendees can also join a free “Stop the Bleed” workshop from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. This hands-on training focuses on controlling bleeding and providing life-saving care before medical professionals arrive.

Organizers say both programs aim to empower community members to take decisive, informed action during emergencies and to be ready to help others. The courses are open to the public, ages 16 and older, and require advance registration through the Madison Police Department’s event links.

Residents can register for the C.R.A.S.E. training here and for Stop the Bleed here.
