Damaging Winds, Possible Tornadoes Expected in South Carolina Midweek

Columbia, SC – A strong storm system will move across South Carolina early Wednesday, bringing damaging winds and the risk of isolated tornadoes. The storms will pass through the state during the morning hours and clear by midday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Columbia, the strongest storms will develop in the eastern part of the state. Areas under the highest threat include Columbia, Camden, and Sumter. Wind gusts could reach 45 mph, increasing the risk of power outages and tree damage.

A Wind Advisory will be in effect from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Residents should secure outdoor items and prepare for potential disruptions. Travel conditions may become hazardous, especially on bridges and overpasses.

Severe weather timing varies by region. Storms will reach western areas like Augusta between 5-7 a.m., central areas by 6-9 a.m., and eastern regions between 8-11 a.m.
