Raleigh, NC – Severe weather is expected across central North Carolina on Sunday, with damaging winds as the primary threat. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of wind gusts between 35 and 45 mph, even outside of thunderstorms.

According to the NWS Raleigh, a line of strong to severe storms will move into the area between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. The system could produce damaging winds, brief tornadoes, and localized flooding. The strongest winds are expected in the Sandhills and Coastal Plain regions.

Residents should secure outdoor items and prepare for possible power outages. Travel may become hazardous due to strong gusts and reduced visibility. The NWS advises staying updated as forecast confidence increases.

Officials recommend having multiple ways to receive weather alerts and seeking shelter during severe storms. If a tornado warning is issued, move to a small interior room on the lowest floor.

Wind gusts will remain strong into Sunday evening before gradually weakening. More updates will be provided as conditions develop.
