Trenton, NJ – The National Weather Service (NWS) has placed New Jersey under a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 p.m. tonight, warning residents of the potential for damaging winds and large hail. The advisory comes as isolated thunderstorms begin to develop over eastern Pennsylvania, moving toward New Jersey.
According to the NWS, the approaching storm system from western Pennsylvania is expected to reach New Jersey by evening, bringing with it threats of wind gusts up to 75 mph, hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter, and a possible tornado. The severe thunderstorm watch affects areas within 60 miles north and south of a line from 40 miles west of Allentown, PA, to 20 miles east-northeast of New York City.
