Dallas, Texas – Warm temperatures and gusty winds are elevating fire concerns across North and Central Texas today.

According to the National Weather Service Fort Worth office, afternoon highs will range from 10 to 20 degrees above normal, with temperatures climbing into the 70s and 80s across the region. Graham is forecast to reach 86 degrees, Cisco 84, Dallas-Fort Worth 76, Waco 76, Killeen 79, and Sherman 73.

South winds between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts reaching up to 30 mph, are expected throughout the day. Low humidity combined with breezy conditions is creating an elevated fire threat, particularly west of U.S. 281. The agency advises residents to avoid outdoor burning and to secure lightweight outdoor objects that may be blown around.

Drivers along major corridors including Interstate 35, Interstate 30, and U.S. 281 may encounter strong crosswinds, especially in open areas.

Looking ahead, a cooling trend is expected heading into the weekend. Highs on Friday are projected to run 5 to 10 degrees cooler than earlier this week, with Dallas-Fort Worth dropping from the mid-70s Friday to the low 60s by Sunday. Sherman is expected to fall from 61 Friday to 58 Sunday, while Waco and Killeen decline from the low 70s Friday to the mid-60s Sunday.

Students, commuters, and outdoor workers should remain mindful of fire conditions and shifting temperatures through the weekend.
