Dallas, Texas – North Texas is in for a dramatic temperature swing this week, with one more cold night followed by a rapid warm-up heading into the New Year.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, Tuesday remains seasonably cool under sunny skies, with afternoon highs in Dallas near 53 degrees. Areas north and east of the city remain cooler, while western locations warm slightly more. Another cold night follows, with overnight lows dropping into the low to mid-30s, prompting reminders to protect pets, plants, and exposed pipes.
Conditions begin to change Wednesday as a warming trend takes hold. High temperatures in Dallas are expected to climb into the mid-60s, continuing upward through the end of the week. By Thursday and Friday, highs are forecast to reach the upper 60s to mid-70s, well above normal for late December.
Forecast data shows New Year’s Day highs near 70 degrees, with some parts of North Texas approaching the low 80s, particularly farther south and west of Dallas. A weak cold front moves through Friday, bringing slightly cooler air for the weekend, but temperatures remain mild, with highs generally in the mid-60s to low 70s.
Despite the temperature swings, dry weather is expected to persist, with no widespread rain chances indicated. Winds remain light to moderate, shifting with passing fronts but not expected to cause impacts.
For commuters, students, and holiday travelers, the warming trend means improving morning conditions after midweek, while outdoor New Year’s celebrations should benefit from unseasonably mild temperatures.
The National Weather Service continues to monitor the pattern and will issue updates if forecast conditions change.
