Dallas, TX –A fast-moving line of severe thunderstorms is sweeping across North-Central Texas early Thursday, bringing the potential for large hail and damaging winds from Dallas to San Angelo.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 8 a.m. CDT. The threat zone stretches roughly 60 miles north and south of a line from 55 miles northwest of San Angelo to 50 miles east-northeast of Dallas. The storms are moving quickly northeastward and could produce hail up to 2.5 inches in diameter along with isolated wind gusts reaching 60 mph.
The primary concern is elevated supercells, which are capable of producing very large hail, especially in areas like Abilene, Stephenville, and Denton. While tornadoes are not the main threat, residents should still stay alert.
Residents in the watch area should secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel, and remain indoors during any warnings. Those driving overnight should be cautious of rapidly changing weather and low visibility from heavy rain or hail.
