Dallas, Texas – Unseasonably warm weather is settling across North Texas as a strong high-pressure system builds in, pushing temperatures well above normal and setting the stage for a springlike feel heading into Christmas week.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, temperatures across the Dallas–Fort Worth area are expected to run 15 to 25 degrees above seasonal averages through much of next week. Daytime highs in Dallas are forecast to climb into the low to upper 70s, with some locations approaching 80 degrees by midweek. Normal highs for this time of year typically sit in the mid-50s.
The warming trend will be widespread across North Texas. Forecast highs in Waco, Temple, and Killeen are expected to reach the upper 70s, while Sherman and Denison may see temperatures rise into the mid to upper 70s as well. Overnight lows will remain mild, generally holding in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees, further reinforcing the unusual warmth.
The surge in temperatures is being driven by persistent high pressure aloft, which is limiting cloud cover and allowing strong southerly flow to pull warmer air northward. While no precipitation concerns are expected in the short term, the warm and dry conditions could increase fire weather awareness in grassy areas if winds pick up.
Residents may notice the warmth impacting typical holiday activities, with outdoor plans feeling more like early spring than late December. Those traveling or decorating outdoors will find favorable conditions, though officials remind residents to stay hydrated and remain mindful of rapidly changing weather patterns common this time of year.
The warm pattern is expected to hold through the days leading up to Christmas, with any meaningful cooldown likely delayed until after the holiday. Forecasters will continue to monitor whether temperatures approach or challenge daily records as the week progresses.
