Dallas, Texas — Thunderstorms capable of producing severe weather and heavy rainfall could develop across North Texas late Tuesday as a cold front approaches the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, an upper-level low and an advancing cold front will bring a good chance of storms Tuesday evening, particularly across the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex and surrounding communities.

Forecasters say some storms may become severe, with the potential for strong wind gusts and periods of heavy rainfall.

Areas highlighted for the late Tuesday storm potential include Dallas, Fort Worth, Sherman, Paris, Waco, Killeen, and nearby cities across North and Central Texas.

Meteorologists noted the storm system is expected to move across the region Tuesday evening into the overnight hours as the cold front pushes through.

After the front passes, drier and more seasonable weather is expected later in the week, with cooler temperatures arriving by Wednesday and Thursday.

Forecast highs in the Dallas–Fort Worth area are expected to reach around 80 degrees Tuesday, before dropping into the low 70s Wednesday and upper 60s Thursday behind the front.

Officials encourage residents to monitor forecast updates and ensure they have multiple ways to receive weather alerts as the system approaches.

Heavy rain and lightning could affect evening commuters and late-night travel across the DFW region Tuesday if storms develop.

Forecasters say additional details on the severity and timing of storms will become clearer as the system moves closer.
