Dallas, Texas – Temperatures will surge into the mid-90s by Thursday afternoon, delivering a summerlike stretch of heat that will quickly dry out North Central Texas heading into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service and NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, North Central Texas is in a 70 to 80 percent probability zone for above-normal temperatures from April 16 through April 20. A large heat dome over the Southern Plains will limit cloud cover and reduce rainfall, allowing temperatures to steadily climb through the period.

In Dallas-Fort Worth and across Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, and Denton counties, highs are expected to reach 91 to 94°F between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., with overnight lows holding in the upper 60s to near 70°F. Along the I-35 and I-20 corridors, dry air and strong sunshine will rapidly dry vegetation, increasing wildfire risk in open fields and along roadways.

Fort Worth and Arlington will see similar conditions with highs in the low to mid-90s, while areas farther north toward Sherman and Gainesville may peak near 90°F. Despite the heat, humidity levels will remain moderate, contributing to faster drying conditions.

The precipitation outlook shows near-normal to slightly below-normal rainfall during this stretch, limiting any meaningful relief and increasing the risk of grass fires. However, a more active pattern may begin to develop just after April 20, bringing increasing storm chances across parts of Texas.

Residents should avoid outdoor burning, stay hydrated, and limit strenuous activity during peak afternoon heat. Drivers should monitor vehicle temperatures and avoid parking on dry grass.

The most consistent heat is expected April 18 through April 20, when highs hold in the low to mid-90s across the region. Additional advisories are possible as warm and dry conditions persist into early next week.
