Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas — A cold front sweeping through North Texas on Thursday will bring breezy daytime conditions, a noticeable temperature drop, and the potential for near-freezing overnight lows by early Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters say temperatures across the Dallas–Fort Worth area will reach the upper 60s to low 70s Thursday ahead of the front, following a stretch of above-normal warmth and light rain. Winds are expected to increase during the day, with sustained speeds of 10 to 20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph behind the front.
By Thursday night, cooler air will settle in, sending overnight lows into the mid to upper 30s across much of North Texas. A few locations, particularly north and west of the Metroplex, could briefly dip below 32 degrees by daybreak Friday, raising concerns for patchy frost.
Before the front arrives, light rain and drizzle will continue mainly across eastern counties through Wednesday night into early Thursday. Fog development is expected near and east of Interstate 35 overnight, potentially reducing visibility during the Thursday morning commute.
Behind the front, winds will gradually weaken Thursday night, dropping to 5 to 10 mph as skies begin to clear. No winter precipitation is expected, but the sharp temperature contrast will be noticeable compared to recent days.
The National Weather Service advises residents to use caution during periods of fog, secure loose outdoor items ahead of breezy conditions, and prepare for colder overnight temperatures late Thursday into Friday morning.
Drivers traveling early Friday should be alert for localized cold spots, especially on bridges and elevated roadways. Forecast updates will continue as the front moves through the region.
