Fort Worth, Texas – Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to pop along and south of the Red River late this afternoon, with the greatest risk running from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Damaging winds, hail and bursts of heavy rain could hit parts of eastern North Texas while much of the region bakes in mid–upper 90s heat.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, storms will form near a south–sagging front and track into Cooke, Grayson, Fannin and Lamar counties, with scattered activity possible toward Denton, Collin, Hunt and Hopkins counties. TxDOT warns drivers to slow down in downpours, never drive through water over roads and expect brief delays if hail cores cross major routes like US-75, US-82, I-35 and US-271.

Cities from Gainesville and Sherman to Bonham and Paris have the best chance for severe cells. Outdoor events should have shelter plans; move indoors at the first rumble of thunder. Secure loose items, charge devices and park vehicles under cover where possible.

The threat eases late tonight, but additional advisories are possible if storms linger or redevelop near daybreak.
